LIFE JACKETS
Memorial day is considered by many to be the start of
boating season. The lake was very was very busy Saturday and Sunday in front of
our house. When we watched the
news Sunday evening, they were showing several people who were going around
giving folks life jackets if they would sign a pledge to wear them. The campaign, called ÒWear It TennesseeÓ is distributing
these life jackets during the summer on the Percy Priest, Old Hickory, and
Cheatham lakes for free (while supplies last). All you have to do is find the
ÒWear It Tennessee!Ó Campaign Boat that will be cruising the water all summer
long. If life jackets save lives, why do people not wear them? The same site that talked about this
campaign gave several reasons. HavenÕt convinced you to wear one? Is it
because theyÕre too bulky? Do they produce unwanted tan lines? Better yet, they
donÕt allow you to get a tan? Well, the Wear It! campaign has news for you. We
have life jackets that will meet your needs. One looks like suspenders and the other looks like a fanny pack. People
will not wear a life jacket because it will mess up their tan line! That sounds
very foolish to many of us, because we are talking about saving your life.
People use this same line of reasoning when it comes to spiritual things. God offers us a life jacket, but even Christ stated that most people will not take it. Matthew 7:13,14. It might mess up my lifestyle, or I am capable of getting out of any life-threatening situation on my own. The fact is, we are not capable of doing this on our own. God extends to us a life preserver, a life jacket, if we will only grab it and hang on to it. You are drowning in the sea of sin and God is giving you the opportunity to get out of that situation. He will not force you to grab the life preserver or put the life jacket on. He wants to rescue you, but you have to want to be rescued. John 3:16ÉRomans 5:6-8 ÉEphesians 2:12-22. When GodÕs word is preached, you are given the opportunity to accept it and become a child of God by obedience to the gospel. ÒFor the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our LordÓ (Romans 6:23).
